ST. LOUIS — Longtime 5 On Your Side anchor Kelly Jackson has been named Mike Bush’s new 10 p.m. weekday co-anchor.

Jackson fills the role as Bush’s co-anchor after Anne Allred decided last month she wanted to step back from the late newscast. This change will allow Allred to focus on reporting. She remains as co-anchor of the top-rated 6 p.m. newscast alongside Bush.

Jackson first came to 5 On Your Side in 1998 from WKBD in Detroit. She spent 10 years at KSDK before moving out west to anchor the morning newscast at KSDK’s sister-station News10 in Sacramento.

In 2010, Jackson returned to 5 On Your Side and anchored the weekend morning newscasts and Saturday evening newscasts. In 2021, she became Bush’s co-anchor at 5 p.m.

“I am immensely proud to have had the opportunity to work at 5 On Your Side from the moment I started in 1998. Through the decades we have built a legacy on being the station where people know they will get fair and balanced reporting,” said Jackson. “Expanding my role is nothing that I take lightly. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the smart and hardworking journalists at 5 On Your Side. I am especially happy to become a part of the experienced evening team with Mike Bush, Scott Connell and Frank Cusumano. Working alongside your friends is an added plus! Local news is truly more important than ever, and I hope our viewers will continue keep their trust in us.”

Originally from Quincy, Illinois, Jackson earned a degree in radio/TV broadcasting with a minor in political science from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She has won numerous awards for her journalism. Among them include Mid-America Emmy Awards, a national award for the Alliance for Women in Media, and awards from the St. Louis Business Journal. Earlier this year was honored by the Urban League for balanced reporting.

“We are incredibly excited to expand Kelly’s role in our newsroom,” said President and General Manager Alicia Elsner. “She and Mike share the same unwavering commitment to serving St. Louis. I look forward to seeing their personalities and news experience shine at 10 p.m.!”

Jackson will continue to anchor the 5 p.m. weekday newscast alongside Bush, Cusumano, and meteorologist Jim Castillo. She will begin anchoring the 10 p.m. newscasts Nov. 27.
