PORTLAND, Ore. -- Protesters marched along the streets of North and Northeast Portland Friday morning to mark one year since the death of 17-year-old Quanice Hayes.
On Feb. 9, 2017, a Portland police officer shot Hayes three times.
A grand jury ruled the shooting was justified. But Hayes' family believes the officer, Andrew Hearst, acted unreasonably.
The group Don't Shoot Portland organized a protest Friday morning before noon that moved down Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and along Ainsworth and Killingsworth streets, including at one point a rally at Portland Community College's Cascade Campus.
Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson told KGW that about 100 students from Ockley Green Middle School joined the protest.
Simpson said the protesters were peaceful and officers had no problems to report.
