Watch: Video shows car crash into Gus' Pretzel Shop Saturday

Video from Joel's Benton Park BP, a gas station across the street from Gus's Pretzels, showed the black Ford Focus speeding into the corner of the building.

ST. LOUIS — Gus' Pretzels, a St. Louis staple in the Benton Park neighborhood, was damaged in a crash Saturday.

Video from Joel's Benton Park BP, a gas station across the street from Gus's Pretzels, showed the black Ford Focus speeding into the corner of the building.

Owner Gus Koebbe III said the car crashed into the corner of the building that is used for storage. He said it is the older portion of the building that was constructed in the 1800s.

Koebbe said the woman behind the wheel at the time of the crash ran from the scene, but police later found her at her home in the neighborhood. He said she had significant injuries and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

Koebbe said they had a masonry team come out to assess the damage. He said the masonry team told them the building appeared to be stable, and they boarded up the damage.

He said the crash created a lot of dust in the storage area, but they are hoping to put up a barrier between the storage and production areas so they can remain open during the repair process.

The business is normally closed on Sunday and Monday, and Koebbe hopes they can be open on Tuesday.

Koebbe says he hopes the driver "can recover from her injuries."

"Our building can be fixed," he added.
