ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Children’s Hospital has started a new tradition to celebrate babies leaving the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The idea is the brainchild of former NICU mom, Suzie Quinton.

“I have two daughters," Quinton said. "They were both in the NICU and the day that we left it's a milestone. It’s such an achievement and it felt like it was missing that little special touch."

So, Quinton decided to add that special touch. She contacted Children’s Hospital with the idea to make tiny graduation caps for babies heading home.

She makes them all by hand at her kitchen table and the effort is funded solely by donations. So far, she’s made 305 since the tradition began last month.
