Jefferson County Proposition 1 (Marijuana)

Simple majority required.

Ballot wording: Shall Jefferson County, Missouri, impose an additional sales tax of three percent (3%) on all retail sales of adult use marijuana sold in Jefferson County, Missouri? This would tax only recreational marijuana and would not allow the taxation of medical marijuana.

Summary: The proposition would authorize the county to impose an extra sales tax of 3% on the retail sales of recreational marijuana across the county. The revenue collected will be used to partially fund county services. There are pending lawsuits that may resolve the question of whether a county marijuana tax can be imposed inside a city if the city also has its own marijuana tax.

Jefferson County Proposition 2 (Peaceful Village)

Simple majority required.

Ballot wording: Shall the village of Peaceful Village be dissolved?

Summary: Registered voters in Peaceful Village are the only ones who will get to vote on whether to dissolve the 17-year-old municipality. The village was created by the old Jefferson County Commission after the Missouri Legislature passed a controversial law allowing normal regulations to be bypassed for small villages to be created. The county's current legislative body, the County Council, put the dissolution measure on the ballot at the request of a petition submitted by some current village residents.
