There is push to legalize medical marijuana in Missouri and this time, the chances are high that it could pass.

Medical marijuana legalization is something people have tried to get on the ballot in Missouri for years. And this year its finally here.

The state recently approved three different options for the November ballot. Each one of the three options would legalize medical marijuana. However, the difference between them boils down to how much its taxed, and where that money would go.

People may get overwhelmed when they see three different options on the November ballot, so let's break it down.

  • The first would tax marijuana at a whopping 15 percent.

That money would create a state-run institute to research cures for incurable diseases.

  • The second only taxes medical pot at 2-percent.

  • That money would go to several areas, including veterans, drug treatment, early children education and public safety.

  • The third would tax marijuana at 4-percent and the money would toward veterans programs.
  • Nichole Dawsey is the Executive Director for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drugs in St. Louis, she said her group isn't endorsing or opposing any of the measures. However, they just want to make sure people are educated.

    "At NCADA we believe that medical marijuana can be a good thing if indeed we're talking about real medical marijuana. We're certainly not wanting to stand in the way of some real life saving and quality of life improving medicines, but we do just want to take a real measured reasoned approach to see how exactly these things are becoming medicines,” Dawsey said.

    The NCADA professionals said the organizations isn't favoring one option over the other, they just hope you'll do your research on medical marijuana, before going to the polls.
