Remembering Wild Country's 22 years in business

The owner said he "just couldn't do it anymore" and sold the building to a church.

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — Another popular metro east bar is closing its doors.

Wild Country in Collinsville was known as one of the few spots for line dancing in the area and a place many of us will remember.

Chris Montgomery is one of many.

"It was a good place, good place," Montgomery said.

Just off Gateway Drive in Collinsville, Wild Country was the gateway to a good time for dancers and country music fans of all ages.

"I don't know what caused the decline in business over there because when I was going there they had a good crowd showing up, you know," Montgomery said.

Now, gone are the cheap drinks.

"Dollar longnecks, and Thursday nights they had the filming of the Wild Country TV show," Montgomery said.

A grandfather, father and son ran the business for nearly 23 years.

At least one of them was always working there.

Now, the closing has Faith Cockram with BCL auctions working overtime.

"When we get called into a situation a lot of times it is a sad situation, you know friends and stuff will tease us and say you're like the undertaker no one want's to call you," joked Cockram.

Cockram is responsible for auctioning off items from both Wild Country and Beale on Broadway.

"Both of these entities, I mean they were obviously very good at what they did. They brought a lot of enjoyment to the community and the community is sad they're going to be closed," added Cockram.

"I enjoyed all the nights we went there, had a good time and a lot of memories were made there," added Montgomery.
