Sponsored: History in the Remaking | Principal Hotel slated to open in Columbia, Illinois this May

Columbia is excited to welcome a stylish boutique hotel to Main Street in the spring of 2024.

COLUMBIA, Illinois — Columbia, Illinois is excited to welcome a stylish boutique hotel to Main Street in the spring of 2024. It's part of the transformation of the Franklin Yard - Columbia's original entertainment district.

It’s a story that started in 1828 with the Franklin Inn. It was a stagecoach shop and the region's favorite watering hole. The property was also home to the Immaculate Conception Church and School from the late 1800s until today.

Now, the former school's walls and halls are becoming the premier entertainment destination: The Franklin Yard.

Coming in the Spring of 2024, the former building home to the Immaculate Conception School will be transformed into The Principal Hotel.

The stylish boutique hotel will include 41 guest rooms, from studios to family-style suites with bunk beds.

The décor gives nods to the space's past life with touches of original architecture and memorabilia, like exposed brick, chalkboards, lockers, and more. The hotel will also include more modern elements like a salt soak pool, poolside bar, fire pit lounge, garden lounge, meeting space, and gift shop.

The former school cafeteria will be home to Graphite Restaurant and what used to be the school’s gym will become Home Court Sports Bar.

This is all in addition to the existing crown jewel of the property, the Main Street Abbey wedding & event venue space. Over the last five years, the historic church was fully renovated into one of the area’s most stunning wedding and event spaces. They are currently open and taking reservations.

Franklin Yard promises to be a destination where old-school hospitality meets new-school fun. It really is history in the remaking.

The Franklin Yard is located at 310 S Main St. in Columbia, Illinois.
