SLU head coach Travis Ford responds after son uses burner accounts to defend him online

The Saint Louis University Billikens missed the NCAA Tournament last year and have a 7-8 record this season.

ST. LOUIS — Travis Ford has been in college basketball for 27 years, has won nearly 500 games and has been to seven NCAA Tournaments. But now he's under fire.

The Saint Louis University Billikens missed the NCAA Tournament last year and have a 7-8 record this season.

On social media, some are calling for his dismissal. His son Shane, a college sophomore, came to his defense.

However, he did it by setting up fake burner accounts trying to stick up for his dad.

It became a national story when Barstool Sports picked it up. Earlier today, 5 On Your Side's Frank Cusumano talked to Ford about the situation.

"I totally understand where his heart is. We obviously had a long talk about it as a family, and it's interesting, I've been doing this for so long, but sometimes I get caught up into all this," Ford said. "It's interesting to hear all my kid's perspectives of how hard it can be sometimes. I think his heart was in the right place. It's not easy, sometimes it's hardest on your family."

Saint Louis will face the Saint Joseph's Hawks at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chaifetz Arena.
