Saint Louis has parted ways with men's basketball coach Jim Crews after four seasons, the school announced Thursday.

The news comes on the heels of the Billikens' 11-21 season, which ended at the hands of George Washington on Thursday during the Atlantic 10 tournament.

“After reviewing the 2015-16 season and talking with Coach Crews, I have decided that a change in leadership of the men’s basketball program is needed for the program to move forward in meeting our goals,” Saint Louis athletic director Chris May said in a statement.

May told the players about the coaching change after the GW game. He also expressed gratitude for Crews taking over the Billikens program during a period of declining health for former coach Rick Majerus. He helped guide the team after Majerus's passing, too.

Over four seasons, Saint Louis went 77-56; it made the NCAA tournament during each of Crews' first two seasons but was around the A-10's cellar in each of the last two.

“Jim Crews took over as head coach during a very difficult time and has led the men’s basketball program with great class and dignity,” May said. “Jim has represented our University well and has helped the program achieve success on the court and in the classroom. His character and commitment are exemplary, which made this decision ever more difficult.”

May said he will conduct a national search for Crews' replacement.
