A.J. McCarron returns to St. Louis Battlehawks

The Battlehawks open their season on the road at the Michigan Panthers on March 30.

ST. LOUIS — Ka-Kaw! St. Louis Battlehawks fans have another reason to get excited for the upcoming spring football season.

Quarterback A. J. McCarron has signed a contract to return to the Battlehawks for the 2024 United Football League season.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed McCarron following the end of the XFL season. He was drafted by Cincinnati in 2014. He had six touchdowns and three interceptions in seven seasons in the NFL.

He was on the team's active roster for the final six games of the 2023-24 NFL season.

In 2023, he set an XFL record by throwing 24 touchdowns for St. Louis. He also led the league with a 68.8% completion rate and ranked second with 203 completions and 2,150 passing yards, a press release said.

St. Louis ended with a 7-3 record and missed the playoffs after tiebreaker rules.

McCarron and the Battlehawks will play in the newly formed UFL, a spring football league that was formed when the XFL and USFL merged late last year. Four teams from each league made the jump and will be aligned in conferences based on where they came from.

The Battlehawks open their season on the road at the Michigan Panthers on March 30. The first home game at The Dome at America's Center will be on April 6 against the Arlington Renegades.
