SAN FRANCISCO — Friday’s Game Report: Cardinals 9, Giants 4
The Cardinals’ offense continued to show renewed signs of life on Friday night in San Francisco.
Dexter Fowler had three hits, including one of three Cardinals’ home runs, and scored three runs as they won their third game in a row by defeating the Giants.
Jose Martinez and Paul Goldschmidt also homered and Fowler and Tommy Edman had RBI triples in the 14-hit attack.
Here is how the game broke down:
At the plate: Kolten Wong also had three hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, who got at least one RBI from six of the eight position players … The home runs for Martinez and Goldschmidt came in the first inning and gave the Cardinals a quick 3-0 lead … After the Giants tied the game, Edman’s triple drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth and Fowler tripled in a run and scored in the seventh before capping his big day with his home run in the ninth inning.
On the mound: Dakota Hudson was able to pitch through the fifth after giving up two runs in the first on two hits and three walks … The bullpen had another good game with Giovanny Gallegos retiring all isx batters he faced and Dominic Leone allowing the final Giants run in his two innings of work.
Key stat: The Cardinals had not had three homers and two triples in a game since Sept. 26, 2017 against the Cubs.
Worth noting: The Cardinals have scored a combined 19 runs in their three consecutive wins. They had scored a total of 19 times in their previous seven games … They had played only one game since May 14 when they had 14 or more hits (16 on June 20) … The nine runs were the most the Cardinals scored since they also had nine on June 14 against the Mets … Before the game the Cardinals recalled first-baseman Rangel Ravelo from Memphis and optioned outfielder Lane Thomas back to the Triple A club.
Looking ahead: The Cardinals will send Miles Mikolas to the mound on Saturday night in the second game of the series.
