Jim Edmonds' downtown restaurant closes

Owner Mark Winfield said the restaurant closed for business due to a lack of foot traffic.
Jim Edmonds #15 of the St. Louis Cardinals watches his two-run walk-off home run against the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series October 20, 2004 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The Cardinals defeated the Astros 6-4 in the 12th inning to tie the series 3-3.

ST. LOUIS - Jim Edmonds' downtown restaurant, The Precinct Bar and Grill, has closed.

Owner Mark Winfield said the restaurant at 19th and Olive closed for business Wednesday due to a lack of foot traffic and slow business during the day. The space will remain open for private banquets and events. They made the announcement on their facebook page.

Winfield also said the decision was aided by the fact that their joint venture in Kirkwood, Winfield's Gathering Place, has been doing so well and he could not spend the time he needed to at the Kirkwood restaurant.

Winnfield added that anywhere from 6 to 12 people will probably lose their jobs. Some who worked at the downtown location have already transferred to the Kirkwood restaurant.

The Precinct was given its name due to its proximity to the St. Louis Metropolitian Police Department and opened in October of 2013.

Edmonds played for the Cardinals for seven seasons, winning one world series and making three all-star teams.
