Who will perform the National Anthem at the St. Louis Cardinals home opener?

A country singer with local roots will perform before the Cardinals play their first home game of the season Thursday.

ST. LOUIS — Thousands of fans will flood into Busch Stadium on Thursday as the St. Louis Cardinals play their first home game of the season against the Miami Marlins.

But before the players take the field, all will rise to their feet for the National Anthem. This year's performer is country singer-songwriter Michael B. Whit.

"I'm deeply honored to sing the National Anthem at the Cardinals' home opener," Whit wrote in the comments of a 5 On Your Side Facebook post announcing the performance. "To the fans, your passion and dedication to our team and community inspire me to give nothing but my best. Your support means the world to me, and I am determined to deliver a rendition of our National Anthem that reflects our shared pride and joy.

"This is more than just a performance; it is a celebration of our nation, our love for the game and the unifying spirit of St. Louis. I promise to sing with all the respect and reverence that this moment deserves. I don't take this lightly and will give my all. Here's to a great season start!"

Whit's new song, "Red October," is a rally song that pays tribute to the Cardinals baseball legacy and honors legendary Cardinals like Stan Musial, Ozzie Smith and Yadier Molina.

"Drawing inspiration from Tina Turner's power and Hank Williams Jr.'s grit, 'Red October' is a rallying cry to support the Redbirds and honor the essence of the game," Whit said in the release.
