'Laura would have loved it' | Former business manager reflects on a "Glori(ous)" new Blues Tradition

"Her artistry and herself as a person is living on in a very tangible way," says Kathy Golik.

ST. LOUIS — There's no question, this Blues season has been defined by a song heard by a few players at a bar just outside of Philly that has taken on a life of its own.

We're talking about Laura Branigan's 80s dance classic, "Gloria."

Fans at Enterprise for the Game 2 Watch Party sang its praises.

"Love the song," Michelle Cramner said.

"It’s like the rally squirrel for the 2011 Cardinals. Whatever works," said Darin Sims.

For those of a certain generation, it brings back nostalgia.

"The song, the lyrics. It just means everything. It’s what the Blues went through," said Michelle Dorso.

However her song speaks to you, Kathy Golik said she's grateful Branigan has seen a "glorious resurgence."

"Her artistry and herself as a person is living on in a very tangible way," says Golik,

Kathy is Laura's former business manager. She believes Laura would love being a part of the Blues' storied history.

"I think, first of all, she’d be very humbled by it and she’d also be very happy about it. Just associated with the story of the Blues and how they were at the bottom and now they’re a Cinderella story," she said.

And what about the song's meaning?

"As Laura used to say, Gloria is about a girl who’s running too fast for her steps and she’s listening to too many people, all the voices in her head," Golik said.

It seems like a fitting metaphor for the Blues season. Perhaps back in January, the Blues also needed to clear the voices in their head.

However you interpret the song of this season, fans seem to be taking note that Gloria is here to stay.

"We’ve listened to it probably a hundred times this week," Cramner said.
