Babos captures first-career title

Timea Babos of Hungary captured her first career WTA singles title on Sunday by beating Alexandra Cadantu of Romania in the final of the $220,000 Monterrey Open.

Monterrey, MX (Sports Network) - Timea Babos of Hungary captured her first career WTA singles title on Sunday by beating Alexandra Cadantu of Romania in the final of the $220,000 Monterrey Open.

The 18-year-old Babos defeated Cadantu 6-4, 6-4 in 81 minutes on the hardcourts at Sierra Madre Tennis Club.

The Hungarian fired five aces, compared to just one for Cadantu.

Both players were appearing in their first career final. Before last week, Babos and Cadantu each had just one WTA main draw win.

With the win, Babos took home $37,000.
