UMSL softball wins conference championship with walk-off hit

The Tritons winning streak seals an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

ST. LOUIS — The University of Missouri-St. Louis Softball team is having one remarkable season. 

The Tritons clinch the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament (GLVC) after senior Chelsea Martinez delivered the game-winning hit for the second game in a row.

Martinez hit a two-out RBI single to help UMSL get the 1-0 win over the No. 12 ranked Indianapolis in the championship game on Sunday, May 5.

What's more impressive is that UMSL is on a 14-game winning streak after starting the season with an 0-6 record.

After clinching the conference title, UMSL has been rewarded with the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

The Tritons will host the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament Thursday through Sunday. 

The team will take on the seventh-seeded Illinois Springfield on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
