Severe weather threat expires for St. Louis metro

Crews are working to assess the damage after storms swept through the area.

ST. LOUIS — Thursday's severe thunderstorm watch has expired for the St. Louis region after a severe storm system rolled through the Gateway and Metro East.

Numerous counties in the 5 On Your Side coverage area were hunkered down after multiple tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, with the last county under a warning being Marion, Illinois. NWS will send out crews Friday to assess the damage and confirm whether suspected tornadoes touched down.

5 On Your Side crews are in Fenton, Cahokia Heights and Jefferson County saw the damage left in the storms' wake for themselves.

The storm threat is expected to completely end Thursday night, with cooler weather returning for Friday into the weekend.
