WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES SOUTH OF OUR VIEWING AREA

ST. LOUIS — We have been paying close attention to the track of this low-pressure system for the last several days. Within the 5 On Your Side viewing area, very limited areas to our south saw rain and some locations had snow with minor accumulations on Monday.

The Winter Weather Advisory for Phelps County, Missouri, was canceled early Monday afternoon. Temperatures stayed above freezing so major travel issues did not happen.

The heavy wet snow totals of 2-6 inches occurred in southwest Missouri.

With temperatures staying above freezing overnight and our hot start to February, you might ask: How can snow even stick?

This situation may be where our snowfall rates overcome the warm air temperatures and warmer ground. In these situations, slushy conditions usually develop on the roads. Grassy and elevated surfaces are a little colder, so there was some accumulation in those far southern counties. As far as areas around St. Louis and further north? We did not see snowflakes or light rain.

LOW TRACKS SOUTH MONDAY NIGHT

Any snow in our southern counties ended before Monday evening. The snow was hard to measure because it quickly melted with warm ground and air temperatures above freezing.
