Get ready for soaking rain for part of the weekend

The heaviest rain will likely fall over southeast Missouri into southern Illinois.

ST. LOUIS — The last weekend of October looks to be a fifty-fifty kind of weekend.

A large storm system will spread rain into the St. Louis area by Saturday morning. Most of the day Saturday will be wet with heaviest and steadiest rain east and south of St. Louis.

With cool air already in place, Saturday's temperatures will be held in the 50s by the wet weather. For snow lovers, another month into the cold season, and this type of system would have meteorologists stressed out trying to forecast snow accumulations.

The good news is that the system keeps moving. By late Saturday night, the back edge of the rain is pushing into St. Louis.

Locally heavy rainfall is possible over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois with some areas seeing more than three inches of rain. Most of the metro area can expect three-quarters-of-an-inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain.

The best half of the fifty-fifty weekend is by far Sunday. The storm system will quickly be moving away allowing skies to clear and seasonable temperatures to return.

Afternoon temperatures will climb into the mid-60s with abundant sunshine.

Much colder weather is set to return to the region by the middle of next week with the potential for many areas to see a hard freeze (lows in the 20s) by Halloween morning. Halloween will be chilly but the current trends keep any rain chance quite low.
