Storm damage, widespread outages reported in southeastern Missouri counties

Strong thunderstorms rolled through the region Wednesday night, causing damage in Madison, Iron and Reynolds counties.

ST. LOUIS — Counties far south of St. Louis suffered storm damage and widespread power outages Wednesday night after a second round of strong thunderstorms rolled through the region.

The Black River Electric Cooperative, which serves portions of eight counties, including Reynolds, Iron and Madison, reported outages after storms caused "widespread damage to the power supply distribution system." The cooperative said it would provide updates on its website.

An Iron County Emergency Management Agency dispatcher said significant damage and outages had been reported. The agency was working on assessing the damage.

In Annapolis, there were reports of damage to South Iron R-1 School. The district said in a Facebook post that there would be no class Thursday, which was scheduled to be the last day of school. "This will be the end of our school year. Have a good summer and stay safe," the district said.

There will be no school tomorrow.
