Man charged for firing shots at another vehicle during road rage incident

The gunshots narrowly missed the other driver, who slammed on the brakes after seeing a gun.

ST. LOUIS — A Fenton man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly firing gunshots into another car during a road rage incident.

According to a probable cause statement, Matthew Senechal caused a crash Saturday afternoon in south St. Louis when he merged into another driver's lane and collided with their vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the car attempted to exchange insurance information with Senechal when he reached into the back of his Honda Accord and pulled out a gun.

The victims went back to their vehicle, and Senechal followed behind them before pulling up alongside the vehicle and firing gunshots out of the window, the probable cause statement said. Because the victims slammed on their brakes, the gunshots missed them and only went through the front part of the vehicle.

Police tracked Senechal down with his license plate information, and he admitted to being the driver and shooter in the road rage incident.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged Senechal with two counts of first-degree assault or attempt, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon to shoot at or from a motor vehicle at another person or vehicle.
