Homicide under investigation in St. Louis' Penrose neighborhood; 19-year-old victim identified

Police responded to the scene early Wednesday morning after getting reports of a "downed person," the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

ST. LOUIS — Investigators surveyed the scene of a homicide early Wednesday morning in St. Louis' Penrose neighborhood after a man was fatally shot, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said in its incident report. 

Officers were initially called to the scene near the intersection of Farlin and Shreve avenues for reports of a "person down," the department said. After arriving at the scene, they found the person with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a the scene. 

On Thursday, police identified the man as 19-year-old Jerome Baker of St. Louis. 

Police have yet to share further details of the investigation.
