ST. LOUIS — Two people who were involved in a shootout were found with gunshot wounds after a car crash near Saint Louis University.

Officers responded to North Grand and Laclede around 2:25 p.m. where a man was found shot in the leg and a woman was found shot in the buttocks. Police said both were conscious and breathing.

The victims told police they were near Grand and Kossuth—about two miles north of SLU—when an acquaintance shot the woman during a fight. The other shooting victim said he pulled out his own gun and exchanged gunfire with the man.

The man ran off and the victims tried to drive themselves to the hospital, but they got into a car crash at Grand and Laclede.

In a letter to students, Saint Louis University said the shooting was part of a domestic dispute. No SLU students or employees were involved in the incident or eventual crash, which happened just outside the campus border.

Saint Louis University said portions of Grand Boulevard were shut down for the investigation.
