BELLEVILLE, Ill. — On Saturday, a little girl got to meet the firefighters who saved her from an apartment fire a week ago.

The fire happened last Saturday in the 200 block of Freedom Drive.

A woman and two of her children got out safely on their own, but a third child, the 4-year-old named Bailey, was still inside the smoke-filled apartment.

Helmet camera video captured the sounds of her cries before firefighter Matt Preston found Bailey on a couch underneath some pillows and pulled her out of the apartment.

On Saturday, Bailey visited the firehouse so she could thank Preston and the rest of crew 1229.

"This is why we come to work every day!" The fire department said in a Facebook post.
