Body pulled from Mississippi River in need of identification, deputies say

Deputies shared pictures of the man's tattoos, clothes and jewelry he was wearing when his body was recovered near Ste. Genevieve.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. — Deputies are asking for help identifying a body found after being in the Mississippi River for around a week or two, the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office said Monday afternoon.

Deputies received a call from the Tower Rock Stone Mining Company on May 1 at around 1:38 p.m., informing them employees had found a body floating in the river, the office said. Workers recovered the body and transported it to Ste. Genevieve.

An autopsy was performed, but identification could not be determined, deputies said. They shared pictures of the clothes and jewelry the man was wearing when he was pulled from the river. Deputies also shared pictures of the man's tattoos, but 5 On Your Side will not be sharing them due to their graphic nature.

The body is said to be a Black man between the ages of 20 and 40, deputies said. He is around 5' 8" in height and weighs between 160 and 170 pounds. Teeth are all natural and has several tattoos, including:

  • A heart-shaped tattoo on his right middle finger
  • A line of stars with the name "Cee Cee" on his left hand and wrist
  • A "love Melinda" tattoo on his right hand and wrist
  • An STL Cardinals and baseball bat tattoo on his left shoulder

The man was wearing several layers of clothes, including red jogging pants over black jogging pants, a black "Friday the 13th" t-shirt, and a white or grey hoodie that said "Faith over Fear." The man was also wearing a "dog tag" style chain around his neck and a silver ring on his right middle finger.

"Anyone who may know the identity of this person is asked to call the Detective Bureau at 573-883-5820, ext. 18504 or email Lt. Lance White at lwhite@sgcso.com," deputies said.
