Gus’ Pretzel Shop reopens after being 'pretty beat up' in car crash

Owner Gus Koebbe III said the pretzel shop was "pretty beat up" after a car crashed into the side of its building.

ST. LOUIS — Gus’ Pretzel Shop, which owner Gus Koebbe III said was "pretty beat up" after a car crashed into the side of its building over the weekend, plans to reopen Tuesday.

"Great news. We got the okay to be open tomorrow!" the shop posted on its Facebook page just before 4:30 p.m. Monday.

There is a large hole in the building where it was struck by the car, and there are visible cracks on the shop’s second floor, which is “creaking different than normally,” Koebbe said.

The car crashed into the corner of the building that is used for storage, and Koebbe said he planned to put up a barrier between the storage and production areas in hopes that the pretzel shop can remain open during the repair process.

The store isn’t in the best location, Koebbe admitted, given how fast people pull around the corner coming off Interstate 55.
