CWE property owners seek damages from Salt + Smoke over 2022 fire

The lawsuit alleges the restaurant breached its fiduciary duties and was negligent.

ST. LOUIS — Owners of Central West End property are suing Salt + Smoke over a large fire that caused that and another restaurant to close.

The fire at 392 N. Euclid Ave. occurred in June 2022, causing Salt + Smoke and Mission Taco Joint to close locations in the building.

The lawsuit is from a nonprofit condo association and the owners of condos in the building, including developer Milton Rothschild. It says that Salt + Smoke caused "greasy rags" used in its operations to be stored in a flammable cart that contained soiled linens, placed in a common area outside a rear door of the restaurant. The greasy rags "caught fire and started a fire which spread to other portions of the Building, causing destruction of and damage … extending to the condominium units … as well as common areas."

The suit alleges the restaurant breached its fiduciary duties and was negligent.
