St. Louis students head to Kenya to help children in need

The trip is part of their 2018-2019 youth leadership class to give back to the community.

ST. LOUIS — A group of high school students from Hazelwood and Pattonville school districts are heading to Kenya to help children in need.

All eight students will leave Monday, July 30. All year, they’ve been collecting money, school supplies, shoes, soccer balls, and medical items to bring to children in Kenya. They’ll be visiting local orphanages and hospitals. They will also be building a classroom in a remote area of the country.

The trip is part of their 2018-2019 youth leadership class to give back to the community.

“Every little that you have, you should share with other people. I’ll take what little I have here to share with the people there,” said Sally Gacheou.

Grace Mary Naghaa has been to Kenya before. She said she saw many children who didn’t have shoes or clothing so she wanted to change that.

“Giving them what I have in my pocket, that can’t create a long-standing impact. So creating a mission trip that creates a classroom. That will have an impact that will keep on giving,” said Naghaa.

The group will return from Kenya August 16.
