Police say a 23-year-old man was speeding westbound on I-70 when he hit a truck.

ST. LOUIS — A 26-year-old woman died after a crash in St. Louis early Saturday morning.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said it responded to a call about a two-car crash around 3 a.m. on I-70 near O'Fallon Park.

A 23-year-old man was speeding while traveling westbound on I-70, police say. While he attempted to switch lanes, he hit the rear left corner of a Freightliner truck. The car flipped and slid along the left shoulder of the interstate, police said after a preliminary investigation.

There were three people inside the car at the time of the crash, police said. The woman, 26, sitting in the passenger seat died on the scene.

Police said the man driving the car and the backseat passenger were transported to a nearby hospital by EMS and are in stable condition.

The 46-year-old woman who was driving the Freightliner was not injured, according to the incident summary from police.
