Spring warmth ahead for St. Louis

May's forecast for Missouri & Illinois gives us a 33% chance (or greater) of having warmer than normal temperatures.

ST. LOUIS – After a cold start to spring in St. Louis, warmer weather is forecast for the month of May, according to the National Weather Service.

On Thursday, the Climate Prediction Center released an updated monthly forecast for May, as well as a three-month forecast for May through July. Both forecasts point to warmer than average temperatures for the St. Louis region, as well as warmer temperatures for much of the United States.

May’s forecast for Missouri & Illinois gives us a 33% chance (or greater) of having warmer than normal temperatures. The May to July forecast is also forecast in the 33% chance (or greater) range. Rain forecasts for the next three months are most likely to be normal for the bi-state.

This warmer weather would be welcome news for St. Louis, as March was 3 degrees colder than average, and April is nearly 9 degrees below average as of April 19. Typically, May is a warm month for St. Louis, with average high temperatures in the low 70s on May 1, the low 80s by May 31.
