ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals are doing some adjusting to their 40-man roster now that the 2019 season has come to an end.

On Friday, the Cardinals added pitchers Jordan Hicks and Brett Cecil and outfielder Lane Thomas to the team's 40-man roster from the 60-day injured list.

These players were able to be put on the 60-day IL during the season while freeing up a spot on the 40-man roster, but now that the season has ended they had to be put back on.

Jordan Hicks is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss half of the 2020 season. Cecil's time with the Cardinals has been bumpy to say the least. He's battled ineffectiveness and injuries, and the Cardinals are still on the hook for him for one more year. Lane Thomas impressed in his brief opportunities with the big club in 2019, but fractured his wrist and missed the last month plus of the season.

The team also announced they have outrighted catcher Joe Hudson and the Los Angeles Angels claimed reliever Mike Mayers on waivers.

Mayers had a 6.63 ERA in 16 games for the Cardinals in 2019.
