2 WB lanes of JB Bridge open Friday morning

MoDOT said the lab tests of the cracks in the bridge determined the cracks were not getting worse, meaning the bridge is safe for traffic while crews work on the repairs.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two lanes of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge reopened to traffic around 5 a.m. Friday.

MoDOT said the lab tests of the cracks in the bridge determined the cracks were not getting worse, meaning the bridge is safe for traffic while crews work on the repairs.

MoDOT said they will keep two lanes open between 5 and 10 a.m. on weekdays and will have at least one lane open at all times while crews work on the bridge. MoDOT will be restricting the oversized and overweight loads on the bridge until the repairs are done.

MoDOT does not know when the construction on the bridge will be completed.

MoDOT and IDOT have awarded emergency contracts to get additional resources and start work on needed repairs. Two private companies — as well as crews from MoDOT and IDOT — are working on the bridge.

The westbound lanes of the bridge were closed Sunday evening after cracks were discovered during a routine check of the bridge.
