2 people killed in head-on crash on I-55 in Jefferson County identified

Missouri Highway Patrol said a driver was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 55 when she collided head-on with another car.

Two drivers were killed in a head-on crash Tuesday night in Jefferson County.

The crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. on northbound Interstate 55 near Highway 141.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 69-year-old Barbara Monzyk was driving her Mazda 3 the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-55 when she collided head-on with a Chevrolet Spark. 

Both Monzyk and the driver of the Chevrolet, 29-year-old Emilie Scott, died in the crash. Neither car had passengers inside, and no one else was injured in the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-55 were closed in the area but have since reopened.
