Schnucks says it isn't bringing Matt Carpenter's salsa back

Schnucks started stocking the all-star's salsa on shelves in 2018 but has since stopped. Here's what it said about restocking it.

ST. LOUIS — Former all-star Matt Carpenter is officially coming back to the St. Louis Cardinals, the team announced on Friday.

The 38-year-old signed a one-year deal with the team and will now call Missouri home again after three years away from the state.

In the short time after the team's announcement, many people have already asked about one particular food item Carpenter became known for before leaving St. Louis.

The player's "secret salsa" hit Schnucks store shelves in late 2018 with the name "Bueno Mojo Salsa."

"I've been making salsa for years ... My brother, dad and I have had a recipe we've used for quite some time and I've always been a salsa fan," Carpenter told 5 On Your Side in 2018. "Now that [Adam Wainwright] had this garden in my backyard, I started making salsa fresh out of this garden. Right when I started to do that, both me and the team just took off and it's become quite the rally cry."

Since then, though, the salsa is no longer available on Schnucks' shelves. 5 On Your Side asked the grocery store whether there were any plans to reintroduce the salsa now that Carpenter is also making a return. The grocery store's answer left room for possibility.

"We have nothing to announce at this time," a store representative said.

It seems only time will tell before the player's famous salsa, and less famous cereal, will join in his return.
