Edmundson police officer accused of stealing $41,000 from his elderly grandmother

The Madison County State's Attorney said the dollar amount might go up as the investigation continues.

MADISON COUNTY, Ill — An Edmundson police officer is charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars from his grandmother and is under investigation by his department 5 On Your Side has confirmed.

Charging documents out of Madison County, Illinois allege between August 2015 and April 2018 Adrian York stole at least $41,650.80 from his grandmother.

And that dollar amount could change. Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said, “it’s not unusual in these cases that the amounts often go up substantially.”

Gibbons said a family member reported the case to police.

York’s department, Edmundson, confirms he is “on leave pending internal investigation.”

“If the allegations turn out to be true, it will be an extraordinary disappointment,” said Gibbons of the fact that York is sworn to serve and protect.

In all, he was charged with two counts of unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person, and one count of using deception to steal more than $5,000 of property from an elderly person. His bond was set at $50,000.
