Man found shot to death in parking lot of Spanish Lake apartment complex identified

SPANISH LAKE, Mo. — A man was found shot to death in Spanish Lake Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the 2000 block of Carrie Way Lane around 5:20 a.m. where a man was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

He was taken to a hospital for life-saving treatment, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

St. Louis County police identified the man as Daniel Smith. He was 33 years old.

Police said the suspected shooter got away before officers arrived. Detectives believe Smith knew the person who shot him.

The investigation is being led by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
