Teen hospitalized Sunday after shooting in north St. Louis

This is the second shooting involving a teen in 2023 for the City of St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — A teenager was hospitalized late Sunday night after being shot in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Ashland Avenue, near Union Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue.

Police said the boy, 15, was shot in the back. 

He was conscious and breathing, and he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

As of Monday morning, there was no word from police on what circumstances led to the shooting or whether anyone has been taken into custody.

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis has an anti-crime program called “Safety Net for Youth Initiative,” which is a joint partnership with St. Louis Public Schools to provide services to at-risk youth.

Cure Violence is an international organization that has recently launched in a handful of St. Louis neighborhoods. Violence interrupters are trained to de-escalate violent situations within their own communities.
