Family of Officer Langsdorf's accused killer pens apology letter

In a statement Saturday, the family said that they are "devastated that Michael Langsdorf's family has to endure such heartache."

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The family of Bonette Meeks, the man charged with killing North County Police Cooperative Officer Michael Langsdorf, reached out to 5 On Your Side with an apology for their son's alleged actions. 

In a statement Saturday, the family said: "(we) would like to express our deepest sympathy and send our condolences to the Michael Langsdorf children, parents, fiancee, family and friends. We are devastated that Michael Langsdorf family has to endure such heartache."

Officer Langsdorf was shot June 22 after responding to a call of someone trying to cash a bad check at Wellston Food Market. He died from his injuries.

Meeks was arrested by assisting officers a short time later and confessed to killing Officer Langsdorf.

The family's full message, sent to various media organizations on Saturday evening, read:

"On behalf of the actions of Bonette Kymbrelle Meeks.

The family would like to express our deepest sympathy and send our condolences to the Michael Langsdorf children, parents, fiancee, family and friends. We are devastated that Michael Langsdorf family has to endure such heartache. We know there are no words that can change the outcome of what has happened. We will continue to pray the strength that we all shall see light at the end of this darkened tunnel and GOD will continue to be a fence around us all."

Meeks' next court date is set for Aug. 12. 

The visitation for officer Michael Langsdorf will be on June 30 and the funeral will be held on July 1.
