ST CHARLES, Mo. — For many, the Flood of 2019 is only just starting to go come to an end.
"I don't wanna go back until everything's fixed, but I know that's not possible. We got to go fix it all," said one local resident.
That's something most of the people in a crowded room in St. Charles on Saturday were hoping for as they jumped from table to table looking for guidance on how they can put the flood in the past.
"It varies from issue to issue," said Bill Brent with the Red Cross. "Everyone's recovery is different, and people struggle through the recovery process and it's not fast."
The organization partnered with other local disaster assistance programs to set up a one-stop shop for flood victims.
"Each of these organizations has something a little different that they can do to help that person through their recovery," Brent said.
The event was meant to give people everything they may need after a flood, from insurance information to bottled water. But for many of the families who showed up today, it's hard to move forward when the roads are still flooded and debris still covers their front yard.
Rick and Mary Jo Jacobs have been out of their home for months. Currently staying in a camper, the two came to the St. Charles Christian church for support.
What they found was comfort.
"Everyone's willing to help each other and have each others back," Rick said. "That's what's this is all about."
Togetherness, brought on by a flood that will go down in T-shirt history.
There will be other chances for people who didn't come out on Saturday. On July 1-2 the Red Cross will be at Winfield High School in Lincoln County.
Those who plan to go only need to bring their ID.
