ST. LOUIS — Gas prices have continued to drop during the month of July in the St. Louis area.

St. Louis has seen the price fall 21.3 cents in the last week, according to GasBuddy. Prices are averaging $4.03/g as of Aug. 1.

As August begins, prices are 76.1 cents lower than they were just one month ago. Compared to a year ago, the average in St. Louis was $2.99 per gallon.

In St. Louis, the cheapest station was priced at $3.44/g and the highest was $4.87/g on July 31, according to GasBuddy's price reports.

The national average price has fallen 15.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.17/g. Prices are down 65.5 cents per gallon overall nationally, according to GasBuddy.

The national average price of diesel declined by 14.8 cents last week, standing at $5.27 per gallon.

“We continue to see average gas prices falling in every state, with the national average down for the seventh straight week. Even better, nearly 20 states have also seen their average decline to $3.99 or less, with over 70,000 stations now at that level or below," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Missouri is averaging $3.86 per gallon while neighboring state Illinois is averaging $4.61 per gallon.

Missouri reached a record high earlier this summer, averaging $4.72 per gallon in June.

Missouri is the 12th least expensive in the U.S., according to GasBuddy's website.
