‘Wheely exciting!’ Gondolas being installed on the new Ferris wheel in downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — Gondolas started to be installed on the St. Louis Ferris wheel at Union Station on Tuesday.

There will be 42 climate-controlled gondolas on the 200-foot-tall attraction.

The Ferris wheel will be open every day of the year and is scheduled to open in early October. An 18-hole mini-golf course and a carousel will also open in early October.

The gondolas are climate-controlled at a temperature of 72 degrees. Each gondola will hold eight passengers. One VIP gondola will have bucket seats and a glass floor. The ride will take approximately 15 minutes.

More than 1.6 million LED lights will allow the wheel to be illuminated in 16.7 million color combinations.
