Snow removal crews across St. Louis area ready for this week's snowstorm

Businesses have to have someone to call on when snow hits. That's why private snow removal crews are on standby and prepared to respond.

ST. LOUIS — MoDOT isn't the only group getting ready to clear snow, so are private companies that will concentrate on commercial properties.

A St. Louis company told its crews Tuesday to get plenty of rest during the evening and into the night so that they can be up bright and early Wednesday.

The goal is to get to work as soon as the storm hits and can quickly get things back to normal once it's out of here.

Forget Hollywood, Ken Boegeman would rather be in Snow Business.

"Our entire staff is ready,” he said with excitement.

Winter weather is setting the stage for his cast to take center stage.

"It's go time until it's over,” Boegeman said. He owns the Swinter Group snow removal company.

The 550 crew members there know what to do whenever there’s heavy snow.

"We have to make sure that everyone can stay rested, be safe, be able to cycle crews in and out, get rest, and be well prepared to keep moving and keep fighting that snow,” he explained.

MoDOT will handle the highways as private companies like his handle commercial properties such as office buildings, shopping centers, and places you frequent.

"We'll start working the moment rain turns into frozen precipitation, we'll go to work,” Boegman said. They've got everything loaded to get the job done, including plows, bulk rock salt, and brine mixtures.

"It's our job to make it so the rest of everybody in town can function."

But they'll need your help. You've heard it before. If you don't have to be on the roads, steer clear.

"The more room we have to work, the better job we can do at a faster clean,” he said.

After all, we're talking potentially treacherous travel.

"Even if you think it can't be rescheduled, nothing is worse than going out and getting into a wreck," Boegman said.

As drivers do their part, they'll do theirs. This is what they know best.

"We do live for the snow. This is something that is in all of our blood. We thrive on this and this is something we really do enjoy,” Boegman said.

Snow removal crews will work around the clock hitting the roads first thing Tuesday morning. They prepare for this all year.
