Clouds will thicken overnight ahead of the next weather system that brings rain by early Tuesday morning to much of the area. Showers are likely to start the day Tuesday, but severe weather is not expected. With clouds and rain, highs will only be in the lower 70s, way below average for this time of year!
The heaviest rain is expected to fall across parts of central into southeast Missouri where more than an inch of rain is forecast. Rainfall amounts will drop as you head toward the Mississippi River and St. Louis and continue to drop off into central Illinois where. Metro area rainfall totals will most likely range from .50" - 1.50" with upwards of 2" - 3" possible near the Ozarks.
By Wednesday, the system will be exiting the area, bringing the return of dry weather to end the week. Temperatures will stay near or below average. Highs in the 80s are expected through the end of the week.
