St. Louis forecast: Below average temperatures this week

Rain returns late Monday night into Tuesday

Clouds held temperatures back a bit Sunday making it quite comfortable as a weak cold front slipped south of St. Louis. Partly cloudy conditions are expected overnight with lows in the 60s.

Monday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures are again a bit below average in the low to mid 80s. Clouds will thicken later Monday ahead of the next weather system that will bring rain by early Tuesday morning to much of the area. Showers are likely to start the day Tuesday. With clouds and rain, highs will only be in the lower 70s-way below average for this time of year.

The heaviest rain is expected to fall across parts of central into southeast Missouri where more than an inch of rain is forecast. Rainfall amounts will drop as you head toward the Mississippi River and St. Louis and continue to drop off into central Illinois where. Metro area rainfall totals will most likely be from a half an inch to an inch.

By Wednesday, the system will be exiting the area, bringing the return of dry weather to end the week. Temperatures will stay near or below average. Highs in the 80s are expected through the end of the week.
